- Confirm the airline terminal and write it into the pickup message.
- Use a FAAN help desk for airport navigation or lost-property guidance.
- Create a baggage record before leaving the reclaim area when something is missing.
- Keep the first appointment flexible because arrival formalities and road conditions vary.
01
Put the terminal in every arrival message
FAAN's MMIA page describes international and domestic terminal facilities in Ikeja and notes that terminal areas are not one interchangeable building. Before departure, copy the airline's exact terminal wording, flight number, scheduled arrival date and passenger name into one message for the person meeting you. A screenshot is useful when data service is slow, but the live airline notice remains the authority if the terminal changes.
Do not build the handoff around a vague landmark remembered from an old blog. Ask the driver to repeat the terminal and a meeting point that can be identified from official signs. If the airline changes the arrival point, update the pickup only after you are in the public arrivals area and can name what the signs actually say.
- Save the flight number and airline terminal notice offline.
- Send the terminal name in words, not only a map pin.
- Keep the accommodation name, street address and telephone number together.
02
Find the orange-and-white help point
FAAN's Passenger Experience Hub gives terminal-specific directions to customer-service desks. At MMIA Terminal 1 it lists desks in the departure hall and the D and E arrival halls; at Terminal 2 it places the arrivals help point in the lobby opposite the lift. The same page says staff can assist with airport navigation, lost and found, complaints, service issues and general passenger assistance.
Use that desk when the pickup instructions no longer match the building, when a terminal name is unclear, or when you need the airport's own process for a missing item. A person wearing an unofficial badge or offering unsolicited help is not a substitute for a desk identified by FAAN signage. Keep documents in your hand or closed bag while asking for directions.
- Follow the current terminal signs to FAAN customer service.
- Describe the problem before handing over any document.
- Ask staff to point out the correct public meeting area.
03
Turn a baggage problem into a written record
If a checked bag does not arrive, stay near the airline or handling desk long enough to create a traceable report. Keep the baggage tag, boarding pass and a photograph or description of the case available. The current NCAA Part 19 page confirms that the regulation covers delayed or lost baggage as well as delays, cancellations and denied boarding, but the airline should receive the complaint first.
Record the reference number, desk, time and airline response in your own notes. Photograph the written report if permitted and preserve receipts for reasonable replacement essentials without assuming a particular reimbursement. The applicable remedy depends on the case and current regulation, so use the NCAA material itself instead of copying a compensation figure from social media.
- Keep the baggage tag until the case is closed.
- List distinctive marks and contents accurately.
- Save every reference number and airline reply.
04
Escalate only after the airline has a chance
The NCAA Consumer Protection Department describes its portal as the official channel for complaints involving disruptions, lost baggage and refunds. Its guidance is to approach the airline first, then use the regulator when the airline has not resolved the issue. That order creates a clearer evidence trail than posting a complaint publicly before the operating carrier has a case number.
Prepare the booking reference, travel date, route, airline correspondence, receipts and the resolution requested. Submit only through the current NCAA domain and retain the acknowledgement. The portal is a regulatory complaint route, not an instant airport transfer service, so solve immediate accommodation and contact needs separately while preserving the formal record.
- Ask the airline for a written response or case number.
- State the remedy requested in plain language.
- Keep copies rather than surrendering original documents.
05
Use a pickup you can verify
Arrange the first road journey through your accommodation, host, employer or another service you can verify independently. Before leaving the terminal, compare the driver's name, vehicle registration and meeting phrase with the original booking. Do not let a new caller replace the agreed driver without confirmation through the channel you used to book.
Move to the public meeting point indicated by airport staff and keep luggage within reach. Share the vehicle details and destination with a trusted contact. This is a planning method, not an assurance about any provider or area. If the handoff feels inconsistent, return to the official help point rather than trying to settle the disagreement in a busy pickup lane.
- Verify the change through the original booking channel.
- Match the registration before loading bags.
- Share the departure message after you are inside the correct vehicle.
06
Make the first evening deliberately light
Do not schedule a prepaid performance, cross-city dinner or museum appointment immediately after an international arrival. Immigration processing, baggage delivery, terminal navigation and the road journey are independent variables. A flexible meal near the accommodation and a confirmed check-in are more resilient than an attraction that depends on every stage running perfectly.
Once settled, verify the next day's venue directly and reconfirm any required booking. Keep the airport paperwork until bags and payments are reconciled. This small pause protects the rest of the trip: a delayed arrival becomes a quiet first night rather than the start of a chain of missed reservations.
- Treat arrival day as a logistics block.
- Place medicine and one change of clothing in cabin baggage where permitted.
- Recheck tomorrow's first venue only after reaching the accommodation.
